Rembrandt Van Rijn painted more than 90 self portraits in his assiduous painting career 1620-1669. The painting that Rex Marsden has reproduced in 2008 is Rembrandt with two circles on the rear wall. Rembrandt started this picture four years before his death in 1669. It was clearly left unfinished with the left hand painted out on Rembrandts original. It was never replaced. In this copy painting Rex Marsden has taken the liberty of completing the work by painting in the missing hand.
