  • The picture called ‘Bubbles’ by the English painter Millais has been copied many times, and famously used in the Pears soap advertisement. Millais was a close friend of John Ruskin and in 1840 became the youngest member of the Royal Academy. Like some other reproductions, Rex Marsden chose to paint his copy with the boy (Millais grandson William James) facing to the left; opposite to the original. Marsden has also been a little more creative with the background to give balance to his own composition.
