Pierre-Auguste-Cot was a painter of the Academic Classicism school. He was born in France and studied at I’Ecole des Beaux-Art in Toulouse before going to live in Paris. His popularity grew quickly, and in 1874 he was made ‘Chevalier of the Legion of Honour’. This painting, called ‘Springtime’ or (Le Printemps) featuring two young lovers sitting upon a swing, is on display at the Metropolitan Art Gallery in New York City.
This romantic painting is one of Rex Marsden’s best reproductions. He has copied it several times and always finds something new within it which he has overlooked previously.
