One of the most famous portraits in the world, the ‘Mona Lisa’, which hangs in the Musee du Louvre, Paris. The relatively small original picture (77cm X 53cm), also known as La Gioconda, was painted in the 16th century by Leonardo De Vinci. The woman’s expression is often described as enigmatic and many an artist has tried to reproduce it. Rex Marsden’s picture, painted in 2008, has almost captured her smile. The eyes in Marsden’s portrait do follow you around the room and is one of the best copies I have seen painted by a local artist.
