Rex Marsden painted a small canvas in 2008 based on Leonardo de Vinci’s Last Supper. The original was painted on the north wall of the refectory (Santa Maria delle Grazie) in 1497. The work focuses on the scene at the moment of the announcement of Judas’ betrayal. Christ is shown in the centre as perfectly calm while the Apostles are in an obvious state of shock. Judas holds his bag of money and is drawing back away from Christ. The original fresco measures 30 feet by 14 feet and many damaged areas have been repainted several times. Like many people, Rex Marsden believes that the figure on the right of Jesus was Mary Magdalene and painted her so!
